Matba - i to any other Opiate is , becaulV it is fo well guarded by the Sapo 'Tartari , principally againlt all thofe mifchievous Effeds of other Opiates , in caufing Stagnation , and giving too great an Infenfibility to the Fibre . And common Experience reaches us , that in s . Ifibma's , and fomeother Diforders , where Opiates are apt to induce Suffocation , this Medicine will not only be deilitute of fuch Confequences , but fometimes alio to procure and encourage even Exploration . 
But in this particular Cafe of the Gout , Campbire fcems to have a peculiar Property which is of great Service . It may be remembred what hath been faid of the great Subtilty of gouty Matter , and how tar it gets into the fmall Threads and Fibres i now by this Means it lies out of the Reach of any but the moil fuitable Medicines , and this we know Campbire to be ; bcfides which alfo it feems the only oily Subitanee that can reach to , and indole , fuch minute Afperities , and ilellroy their Pungency upon the Fibres - , and whofocver tries this Remedy , will find a much greater Degree of Eafe and Compofure procured , than by Opiates without it . And this ftrange Property of Campbire , in blunting the Edges and Pains of rigid Particles , is by fome experienced in joining it with Mercurials , which fhall by that Means be diverted of their Emetick and Cat bar tick Qualities , and changed into Sudorificks : Calomel , and even Furbitb Mineral , ( I ani inform'd by the Tryers , and thofe of undoubted
