The various Shapes and Appearances of this Diilem - pcr , as it is differently circutnilanced in proportion . ro the Quantities , Afperities , and other Aggravations of the peccant Humours , with the Parts it fettles on , mull be left to the Descriptions of Authors who have profeiTedly wrote about it - , it being fufficient to our Defign here , to take Notice that it is from a hòc fharp Humour , fitted to be depofited upon certain Glands , and affeft them in the Manner as it is too no - torioudy known to do . But fo fir as from the chief Circumftances of this Diilemper are fugge fled to us any Means of Cure , it is mod obvious , that as the greateil Difficulty in ting rid of the morbid Humour which caufes the Gout , is in its lying fo far diilant in the Habit from the common Reach of Medicine ; fo this feems not quite fo remote , but to flow moilly in the common Stream of the Blood , and to be immediately depofited by that upon the Parrs afí'eáled , and moil fu i ted for its ception : Befides therefore , the Means before hinted in the foregoing EJJay , for promoting Digeition , minution , and Tranfpiration , as alio tor fofteningand fmoothing the Afperities of burning corrofive mours , all which cannot but take Place here allo , a confiant well chofen Courfe of Diureticks mull necef - farily be of great Service . And too many Inllances we have by Experience of Cafes that have been luf - ficiently laboured with Mercurials , and the ordinary Officinal Alterants , without Succefs , that have wards been conquered by Means feemingly much flighter , fuch as the Millepedes , and the common anti - icorbutick Drinks , made chiefly with cooling and diwretick Herbs and Roots - , no general Form of which can be contrived to fuit every Patient and Circum - flancc , and mull therefore be left to the Contrivance of a Phyfician , according to the particular Exigencies G g 4 of
